Hey Barry and others - talk to me about the BT-LH80W...

Hello,
I'm looking at the BT-LH80W and the Nebtek (currently out of stock - but coming soon!),
and I have some Q's:

1. For CRITICAL FOCUS will the component input be good enough (using the XHA1 presently)? or is the SDI the ONLY way to go to insure Critical Focus??

2. I'm run and gun corporate work, so I need to work quickly:
can the magnify (pixel to pixel) feature stay on while recording?
can it be switched on and off and on while recording?
can it be used with peaking simultaneously while recording?

3. when i magnify with the monitor - it doesn't effect image in camera does it?

Thanks all, it's a pleasure to be here...

Either component or SDI will deliver a comparable picture, and an XHA1 doesn't have SDI anyway so -- don't worry, component will be just fine.

Yes the pixel-to-pixel can stay on during recording. That would probably be an ideal way to go, you can use the camera's LCD for framing and the monitor's pixel-to-pixel and focus-in-red for critical focus.

Yes it can be switched on and off during recording.

As for peaking, there's two different and independent things at work there. On the XHA1 the peaking affects your LCD only, it doesn't affect the live output -- as such, it won't affect the BT-LH80 at all. You won't get peaking on any external monitor. However, the BT-LH80 has its own version of peaking built in (the "focus in red" feature) so you can use that in combination with the XHA1's peaking on its own monitor, or independent of it.

And no, nothing you do with the monitor will affect the camera at all.

Thank you Barry,
I also have an EX1 coming soon, and although it's LCD is touted as not needing an additional monitor - when I need to work fast, sometimes bigger is better.

And since this forum is Panny centric and the wonderful HVX has only component out but it's bigger camera brothers have SDI as well, I thought this would be an accurate place to learn about the component versus SDI for critical focus issue...

Thanks for your prompt answers :)

...and I'm in utter agreement - the camera LCD for framing, the Panny monitor for peaking/magnify for focus - sounds like a great/fast workflow!

Big thanks,
Lonnie
