Heroes, Hiro Effect

What's up guys, I know this is more of a ae question, but mine has been on the fritz, and I have no way of fixing it yet, (I'm on the verge of restoring my laptop to the original settings.) So I have been using premiere to do my effects (And I recently got the visionlab fx studio, but I haven't fondled with it yet). Anyway, I want to know what's a way to replicate that effect where hiro on the show "herores" freezes time and walks around with everything still. I want to know how I should shoot the effect and and edit the effect. Also, I want to do this shot, where the ball is falling from the sky at a normal or slightly speed up pace, and the catcher is under it moving in slow mo. The camera position would clearly be an overhead shot which is basically following the ball. Thanks guys.

Can't do that in Premiere. The masking tools aren't complex enough. For the freeze time thing you'll have to shoot a background plate and the person moving then mask out as he moves (stationary camera). You need something like After Effects for this.

I'm less sure about the second but I guess that would also involve two shots, one of just the ball and a slowed down version of the catcher composited together. If you want to track the ball, that's a whole different story, probably involving 3d software. Then you have to track the motion as it moves. Definitely can't do this in Premiere.

For the first shot, you're talking about a lot of roto work. Or, try it the way they did it for most of the shots in X-Men 2: do it in camera. People can stand pretty still.

For the ball shot, you'd probably want to composite in a CG ball. This seems like the only way you're going to get any mix of quality and control.
