hi everyone!!!!

I've been super busy with personal/professional, sorry for the distance. heya, I know someone with an aeron chair, used by a 120lb. woman for less than a year. they're selling it for $550. should I get one? is it worth it? alexa

well, current chair was like $50, the padding is flattened out now, but I don't have many complaints. that said, ergonomics may be importnatn. hands/wrist strain when editing too much at not so good positions

Yay!

I bought one about 6 years ago for my home office. It's been used daily. It still looks like new (well, except for being a little dusty). It's totally comfortable....definitely a good investment if you spend much time behind a desk.

Definitely Yes. I love mine and for me comfort is an important part of creativity. It's not like you won't be comfortable in the $30 dollar chair, but you will notice difference if you decide on the Aeron. Also, when you're sitting in your $550 chair you can feel just like a dot-commer.

funny, cause, the person "inherited" it from their company when it folded..now is selling it..capitalism!

thanks for your comments, everyone. will do a test sit tonight.

Hey Alexa-- I have an Aeron chair at work and I have to say--it's one nice chair. Probably the best office type chair I've ever used. You can sit in that thing all day and it's comfortable. But is it worth $550 of *your* money? Depends on your budget. That's a lot of money for a chair. Offer her $400 and see what she says. :)

They're nice.

Not $550 nice - and I've spent a lot of time sitting on an awful lot of them - but that's just me.

Oh, they're not very breakable. I have one at home (yes, from dot-com days) and it's expensive, but actually a pretty good investment. Mine's 6 years old now, and if you consider the number of $50 chairs I see getting constantly replaced, the cost difference really starts to slim down.

Anyone used any of the other high-end chairs like the Freedom? I'd like to know how they compare.

I don't think that's true. I bought mine new, direct, for a bit over $600. And then there was a period after the crash where you could pick them up for about half that. Anyway the prices seem pretty stable and controlled now.

We had virtually nothing but busted Aeron chairs, at Netter Digital, back when there was a Netter Digital.

Of course, that was a 250-pound-animators-working-in-them-in-shifts situation. Home use is probably kinder.

well, I do think erognomics is important, but maybe it is more keyboard adjustment that I should focus on. if your body is screwed up in some way and you cannot work, you'r e done. I've had that nearly happen to me with wrist fatigue, not carpal, but things not right do to working with the wrong input device ( mouse) and inputing at the wrong heights.

I did the sit in last night. very nice, very nice. still thinking about it, but as long as no one steals it, it could be a nice investment. a good office setup is also important if you have clients checking out your workspace.

I've got a Aeron wannabe that I got at Office Max for $60 on sale. I love it. The best thing about it is that is its mesh seating surfaces keep my arse from getting all sweaty-like.

these chairs are great, the one im sitting on in the office is about 6 years old and is still in excellent shape...my $200 office max chair at home is about 2 years old and is falling apart...foam arm pads are all messed up. and 2 of the 4 bolts that hold the chair onto the center column are broken.

they are great and worth the cash.
