Here's something funny...

I recently went to export some footage from Premiere 1.5 to DVD, and used the Adobe Media Encoder's DVD MPEG 2 preset. It exported everything okay, but when I went to pull it into Adobe Encore, I get a message telling me that what the Encoder exported is "not a supported file type."

WTF? I mean, Encoder's thing says that setting is for DVD's; not to mention both programs are made by the same company, so one should be able to export in a proper format for the other to use... right? Makes sense to me, anyway...

Anyone else run into this problem? Know how to fix it? Things of that nature?

Premiere can easily make an MPEG2 stream that is not compliant with a DVD application. This isn't a problem with Premiere, but rather with the settings that you used to generate the stream. Despite the fact that both are Adobe products, MPEG2 for DVD isn't the only application for a stream from Premiere.

If you want to list your media encoder settings, it might be really clear where you made your mistake.

Only the encoder settings listed in Encore will work. I ran into the same problem the first time I was authoring a dvd.

Go into Encore and check the list of presets there. It is a more limited list than the one featured in Premiere. Only those presets listed in Encore will work when exporting out of Premiere to Encore.

or

Instead of MPEG2 out of Premiere, I just AVI'd it and encoded using Encore.

..actually you can use encoder settings that are NOT in encore.. for example encoding a true 24p mpg2 DVD stream in PPRO and importing into Encore works fine.. the only thing you need to do is make sure that the mpg2 file is DVD compliant and encore should work with it fine.
