ok, im getting a powerbook 15'' or 17'' w/ 1.67ghz. could i import footage shot on 24fp and 24pa? i would assume that the powerbook would come with fcp hd. any suggestions or advice? im not looking to do any major CG. i just want to do simple cuts, color correction, etc..

Don't Assume. That leads to to bad places.

Your powerbook does not come with FCP HD. You need to purchase that separately.

If all you want to do is some simple editing, then might I suggest Final Cut Express? It is cheapera and has the same basic functionality of Final Cut Pro.

But, if your intentions are to shoot only 24p(or 24PA) then you'll need Final Cut Pro, since Express cannot import 24p DV material.

Think about what kinds of things your actually going to be shooting... are you going to shoot narrative shorts/features? then 24p and FCP HD are the way to go. But if your just planning to shoot, vacations, skate videos.. whatever then I suggest the 30p route, and Final Cut Express.

Think about what your going to be doing with it first, you save yourself some money.

My two cents man.

PS: As a side note, Apple are cheap bastards and don't include Quicktime Pro with a pro computer... that blows my mind.. but other than that good choice of computer..

Yes i will be shooting shorts/narratives. Maybe a few music videos, but not many. So, FCP HD is the way to go? But mostly all my footage will be 24p. I will be shooting w/ the dvx100a by the way. Thanks.
