Help!

End of Fall

I was testing out the LEX with my DVX100a, I been shooting with the DVX for about two weeks now and most all my shots are really soft.

I checked out some of my footage today and once again soft but a CU shot I did with my 105mm, for some reason I can't change the F-Stop with that lens. I'm not entirely sure as to why I can't.

Any how I'm going to post the footage and you guys can help me out, I know I have a softness issue I'm about ready to give up with the Letus...

Sorry, was there a question?

Why is the footage soft? Many possibilities:

- Camera focus on GG was soft
- 35mm Lens focus on subject was soft
- back focus of Letus is set incorrectly
- Letus installed on camera crooked
- grease/dirt on achromatte
- grease/dirt on 35mm lens
- grease/dirt on camera lens
- scene file has detail turned down
- scene file was not 'compensated' for letus by turning detail higher

The most important lesson is that focus is absolutely critical with a 35mm adaptor (especially if you ever plan to shoot in HD). The Letus is designed for f1.4-f5.6 which means your depth of field can be a small as a fraction of an inch. Couple this with an inexperienced workflow and an SD LCD and you have a recipe for wasted tape.

Don't give up. Keep practicing. And if you have a specific question, please be specific about it so we can try and help.

I apologize, I'm thinking my softness is coming from the fact I move the wheel on the DVX focus ring. I taped it down on a test shot and it looked good.

I was shooting -2 detail and I was looking at Barry's DVX book and he stated that going negative will make it look blurry. So I upped it up to +3 and it actually looks crisp. I'd like to play with -2, then +2, then +3, +4, I'd like to see the setting compared to other settings.

Question is the 105mm lens why isn't it manual F-STOP.

test footage of from my Letus Extreme, I used a 50mm & a 105mm, but the 105mm I can't control the F-Stop. Does anyone know why I can't.

You're sort of asking questions that we can't answer since we don't know what lens you have. The more specific you are with your question (and thread title) the more likely people will/can answer. Some of your recent threads are really the same question asked in different places, which is another reason you may not be getting much help.

That aside, which 105 lens: Canon, Minolta, Zeiss, Nikon (which series)...? Does it have an aperture ring, since that's how you control the aperture? The ring is either there or isn't. If there's no aperture ring then you cannot control f-stop on the lens and, as such, cannot use it with the adapter.
