Help / workflow editing Cybershot footage XDCAM-EX

I need to edit some footage from a sony Cybershot model DSC-T90. I can't decide where to do it... Referring to Vegas Pro, Premiere CS4 or FCP.
My choice would be Vegas but for what ever reason the audio does not come in when I drag in the video.

I really would hate to demux all this footage.

The footage is XDCAM-EX HD 1280x720 sqr pixels progressive 32bit
HD MPEG4 video

The audio has some ridiculous sample rate that I don't even have options for when I tried it in Premiere. If I remember correctly it was something like 22khz.....

So far Premiere is doing the job... but the lagg is Ridiculously horrable and I get all this pixelation, glitches and pausing clips on the timeline and I have to render every 2 seconds just to see the transitions.

The renders take for ever...:embarasse

Some clips generate weird frame rates when I import them and it's just a mess.

Does anyone have a workflow? (preferably for Vegas but any would do)

Thanks!

Something doesn't make sense, how can it be XDCAM-EX if it was from a Cybershot?

Use mediainfo on the footage, find out what audio & formats you are using

lol... that's what I said.
I imported a clip into Premiere and right clicked on the clip,
went to properties and here's what I got:

Type: XDCAM-EX Movie
File Size: 11.6 MB
Image Size: 1280 x 720
Pixel Depth: 24
Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 24000 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono
Total Duration: 00;00;16;15
Average Data Rate: 720 KB / second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0

QuickTime Details:
Movie contains 1 video track(s), 1 audio track(s) and 0 timecode track(s).

Video:
There are 495 frames with a duration of 1/29.97th.

Video track 1:
Duration is 0;00;16;15
Average frame rate is 29.98 fps

Video track 1 contains 1 type(s) of video data:

Video data block #1:
Frame Size = 1280 x 720
Compressor =
Quality = Least (1.00)

Audio:
Audio track 1 contains 1 type(s) of audio data:

Audio data block #1:
Format = 16 bit - Mono
Rate = 24000.0000 Hz
Compressor = mp4a

But I think it's premiere interpreting the footage this way.

The actual file extensions on the clips do say .mp4

But like I said the audio does not come in when I drag and drop a clip in Vegas.

I'm going to try and setup a sequence in MP4 instead of XDCAM-EX to see what happens.

Thanks for the reply,

So I created a work-around for now.
I connected the cybershot RCA video out to the input on my HVX200 and did and instant firewire live capture to vegas using my camera's internal A/D converter.
I loose the HD and the native widescreen but at least I'll be able to deliver a decent edit for now.

I know not a lot of people are editing this type of footage but a lot of people do own these consumer cameras. I wonder what everyone's doing to put together their little home-made videos.

If anyone has any further info please let me know, thanks.
