Help with softboxes...

Guys, I am a beginner, and will be shooting a project later this year. I currently own a Lowel kit that consists of 2 Totas and 1 Omni light, with barndoors, umbrellas, frame & gels. I also have a few worklights (2 dual head 500 watt heads, 1 300 or 250 watt head, and a 150 watt head.) I am looking for lights to compliment my kit, I am mainly looking for soft boxes and one or two back lights.

1) With skill (which I do not possess), can one do with 2 totas, 1 omni and umbrellas, etc, what a soft box can do?

2) When you bounce say a 500 watt Omni light off of an umbrella, how much light do you end of with (lose or retain)?

3) What is the most common (watts), of soft boxes used (250, 500, etc)?

4) What is the most common size (16x16, 24x24, etc)?

I intitally decided on a 3 24x24, 600 watt (each), JTL softbox kit ($500), and 1 or 2 Lowel pro lights with barndoors.

5) Is 3 softboxes an over kill?

6) Is 1 enought for most situation, keeping in mind the others lights I already own?

7) Is it better to have 1 Lowel Rifa, than 3 JTLs, if so which one?

Guys I really need your help before I spend this money. Thanks in advance.

The first question to answer is what do you want do? That will drive the amount and type of lights you need.

Yeah, thats a big item you left out. If you are doing just interviews you can get away with 2 lights and a reflector and still get decent look. You might have to work harder to get there but its more than possible.
