help with snycing and making subclips?

hey im new to fcp, ive been using premiere and avid for awhile but now i have a laptop to edit on. im working on a school project for my film II class and need help with two things... (edit:figured out the subclip stuff)
secondly is there an auto sync feature like in avid? (ie when i line up the clap sound with the clap board how do i merge them together into one clip)

Set "in" points for your audio and video (probably your slate). Just command-click on the items you wish to merge in the browser, then control click to pull up a contextual menu where you choose "merge clips". In the "merge clips" menu, choose "Synchronize using:" "in points".
