help with size

I'm pretty new to editing so just bear with me here. I know that DV NTSC is 720 by 480, when I go to my sequence settings the size is 720 by 480 like it should be (at least i think) but the viewer is quite obviously 640 by 480 along with the canvas. Is this normal? I also have noticed that whenever I export a clip from after effects it comes out at 720 by 480 so when I import it into FCP it is squeezed and gets all blurred. What can I do about this? Thanks in advance.

In the viewer and canvas windows... up toward the top... you'll see three buttons. The LEFT button... will show % of the video size in the window. Pull that tab down and you'll see SHOW SQ PIXELS... make sure that's checked.

Good luck,

What?

Not sure I understand. It IS checked?

Check your sequence setup ... select the sequence in the browser and hit Apple-Zero... what does it say THERE?

CaptM

it says 720 x 480, NTSC DV 3:2 aspect ratio. then for pixel aspect ratio it says NTSC, and then all these numbers that are probably irrelevant. and yea the square pixels in the canvas and viewer are checked too.

Aargh....

Then I have to ask... (sorry) you SURE you are seeing what you think you are seeing?

Try turning OFF the check for sq pixels. It SHOULD get even skinnier...

Any chance you can post a screen shot of your workspace?

there's a problem then because it gets wider when i turn it off, as seen below. its screenshots of only the 2nd monitor, the viewer, timeline, browser, and audio mixer are in the first monitor.
