Help with shotgun mic editing

So when I go into my NLE I have to shift all my sound because it only comes out of the left channel or right? Or since it is mono it will come out of the center channel?

Plug your mic into input 2 and switch both channels to "CH 2" under the lcd. This way both channels will be recording the one mic. In post you can separate the channels and do what you want with them.

This also allows you to set a safety level - set channel 1 to what you think the optimum level will be, and then set channel 2 at a lower level. That way if you have a blowout from a sudden loud noise, plosive or your subject hits a word much louder than usual, you'll have the lower channel to fall back on. This has saved my butt many a time.
