I shot a live show and the sound eng handed me three MD's of the sound recording. I dont have an MD player, never used on.

Is there a simple process ot rip it from the MD to mp3 or wav? And what model MD have you used/do you use to do it? I will pick up a used one.

Help appreciated.

I've got a Sony something-or-other "rackmountable" player/recorder that has a Toslink (optical) port on the back. I run a cable from that to my Digi002 (Pro Tools) optical input for a digital connection.

The bigger MD units all have stereo analog outputs. Even a portable player should have a 1/8" line out jack that you could adapt to RCA or whatnot.

I love my MD recorder and still use it several times per week. I keep it hooked up to my studio mixer and use it as a scratch pad to record/archive musical ideas. Even record band shows with it sometimes.

If you get your hands on a tabletop MD they usually have digital out (optical and/or RCA). Datastream is standard wav you can feed into your soundcard's digital input. If the player has only analog out (walkman -type MDs), you have to redigitize it with the soundcard (no real quality loss unless you have noisy soundcard).

I have basically the same system Flash describes.
