help with KSSM: can't figure this out

What's the purpose of the handle. It seems to be the only thing that turns when you pull it out, unless some other part is supposed to move inspite of serious (!) resistance. I haven't tried applying that much force.

I would have thought the handle would allow you to change mic angle relative to boom, but doesn't seem so....

It's pretty tight when you first get it, but it does allow you to change mic angle. Feel free to give it just a little more muscle.

Thanks. So you pull out the handle, and the mount is freed to change angle. But why a turning handle? Wouldn't a release button or pull knob make more sense? Maybe I'm missing something...

You don't pull out the handle if you want to change the angle of the mic, just turn the handle counter clockwise to loosen it.

Got it! So the handle pulls out and turns just to make its position more convenient. I guess they figure if you don't know this much, you shouldn't own one!

That's it! I had to play around with mine when I first got it, too. The last thing I wanted to do was break the damn thing.:)

I'd pay 5 cents more for an instruction sheet!

That's what I thought when I was trying to open my BBG without breaking it. I finally had to come in here and ask.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Then part of the cost must be the special, acoustically transparent instruction sheet paper. Suddenly it seems like a bargain!

I'm sorry I haven't posted a video on assembling the BBG... and now I need to do one on the K-SSM?

You will find that almost ALL video gear with those locking handles has that same function... the "pull on it and the handle doesn't tighten/loosen but only changes position" function. The ability to put the handle where you want it independent of the mount being tightened down is nice.

With lightstands I'll often turn the handle in such a way that it holds the XLR cable so that I don't have to wind the cable around the stand vertically. It's just a convenience.
