HELP with i7 2600/gtx570/8gb desktop build for editing HD in CS5+3DS max!

Hello and thank you all in advance,

I am about to build a desktop pc/ win 7 64 bit, for around 1000-1100 GBP = 1700 $ here in the uk and as everyone knows we get ripped off in europe so please don't make me drool by linking me to US dealers cause with all the taxes and shipping costs to send to uk... well you know...

I'll be heavily using adobe production premium cs5 for editing fullHD footage from my panasonic GH2, but i'll be color correcting a lot in premiere+ after effects mainly with color finesse. i'll also be doing lots of motion graphics, animations and compositing in after effects and even some basic 3d stuff in 3ds max and even some tracking in boujou which will require lots of rendering. so what i've come up with so far for price/perfomance in my range is:

processor: i7 2600
cpu cooler: Thermaltake Frio
motherboard: Asus P8P67 LE
RAM: 8GB Corsair DDR3 1600mhz XMS3 CL9 (4x 2GB)
HDD: 2X1.5tb in raid 0
GPU: Nvidia GTX570
PSU: 700W Xismatek
Tower: Xigmatek Asgard
Keyboard: Logitech Illuminated USB

= 1070 GBP inc. VAT

I've configured my build here cause it's the cheapest i could find: http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=1009
note that i've got a mouse and a 24" fullHD screen already

basically I'm really not sure about which cpu cooler and PSU is best for my build as I don't want any overheating issues and i would like to overclock quite a bit which brings me to my next question, is it worth buying the i7 2600K for an extra 25 GBP over the 2600?

thank you

I just built a similar system to yours, namely a i7-2600k, asus p8p67 mobo, 8gb patriot ddr3 2400 ram. You definitely want to get the 2600k model, and I would get faster ram if I were you. I'm actually using the stock cpu cooler and my machine runs at 4.4ghz overclocked for hours easily. I re-used old computer parts for the rest, namely an nvidia 470gtx and a 630 watt power supply and they are all fine, this machine purrs nicely. Although sadly I just found out that even this isn't enough to run magic bullet looks in real time :(

thank you guys!,

vincent thanks for that link, i'll need to spend some time deciphering what it means-i'm not the most hardware profficient person-as you've noticed. I'm hoping that the GTX570 will be significantly better than the gtx470 so we'll see. Does any of you know whether the Asus P8P67 PRO is worth it over the Asus P8P67 LE?
joker454, so you're saying that if I could choose between faster or more ram I should go for faster?
and for the 2600K - I thought I'd have to get that since it'd be more future proof - a bit annoying though how intel charges you 35$ extra just to disable their own overclocking locking- but when they come up with eye watering chips like these I guess they're allowed a bit of mischief

thanks again

Man that's a nice build I will be doing the same after I get my College refunds. How does it handle DSLR footage?

-Absolutely get the 2600k. It has an unlocked multiplier and is DESIGNED to be overclocked.
-I would save a few $$ and get a GTX 470 instead of the 570
-I would take that few saved $$ and place it into more RAM -- 16GB min.

Keeping all your stuff (boot, OS, data) on a RAID 0 is risky.

over at the adobe forums, they recommend you have at least three hard drives. I have 4... OS, (media, projects), (pagefile, media cache), and (preview, exports)

It really depends on the complexity of what you're editing. Companies will recommend certain configs so that, when you do not have a machine that has that config, they can blame your problems on an "unsupported" config. Just look at the AVID forums..what a joke.

The fact of the matter is that if you're editing a regular, run-of-the-mill project, you should be fine with one hard drive.

If, however, you're editing 15 camera streams, then that's a different story.

The minimum three isn't necessarily an "Adobe" recommendation, but a user one. Yes, fewer will work, but not as well, regardless of the complexity of your project.
