What is your budget?

For shotgun mic- there is a sticky in the audio section that lays out several options for various applications and price ranges.

For lights- you might check out www.vidled.com

For tripod - you could go anywhere from the bogen/manfrotto on up, and up. It depends, again, on your budget, and your needs. I use the Cartoni Focus (1200-1300 U.S.) The Bogens, most people snag around 500-600ish.

For dolly and track - I can't help you too much here. You might either check out the DIY section, and look at folks various designs. Or, you can check out Neil Rowe's Cine Dolly. I believe there is a sticky here on the site somewhere.

For tapes - Just pick a brand and stick with it. Don't go switching brands. Different lubricants from different tape companies will start to gunk up your heads. It is generally NOT recommended to use the 83 minute tapes. Stick with the 63 minute tapes. Panasonic tapes are generally recommended. You can find various sites online where you can buy tapes for considerably cheaper than you can at your local stores. www.tapeandmedia (I think) is one I can think of at the moment. If you check out the Links section on this site you will find some links to other sites people use to get their tape stock from.

Hope that helps,
Jason

That could be possible.

It isn't generally recommended to put the shotgun mic actually on camera. Just FYI. I use the AT4073a. It was about 550. I am happy with it. That could be a good starting point for you. You should check out that sticky in the Audio section, though. Lots of good info. to get you pointed in a good direction.

The Bogen/Manfrotto's could be had in the 500-600.

VIDLED on camera lights are a few hundred.

Neil's Cine Dolly is a couple or few hundred.

The steadycam and vest will (if you got a "cheap" one) cost you at least as much as your budget. You might look at either holding off on that, or going with something like that Varizoom Flopod. I have one, but haven't used it much yet. There is a good article on it and a vest in the articles section. Check it out.

Not counting steadycam, the above would put you at about 2k'ish. The flowpod is 100 and something. The vest is a lot more. Check out the article. That, with the vest, would probably be your best bet for the "poor mans" stabilizer/vest setup for the dvx.

Later,
Jason
