Help with editing shotgun mic audio

So when I go into my NLE I have to shift all my sound because it only comes out of the left channel or right? Or since it is mono it will come out of the center channel? The set up would be just one mic on a boompole.

thanks

Not sure about the DVX, but with the HVX you can switch both left and right audio channels to pick up the mono signal.

Otherwise in Premiere you can choose to fill in the empty channel with a duplicate of the sound channel that has a signal - thus making your mono into a stereo signal with indentical properties on both left and right.

If doing 5.1 surround, then you can just duplicate and/or fill more tracks as needed. Usually mono sound will be either a left or right channel, not automatically a center channel.

The DVX also allows you to record a single microphone onto both audio channels (at least the DVXB does).

Cheers

when you first capture the clip before puting it to the timelime, click once on the clip (in project bin) goto clip> audio> source channel mapping and switch the stero tracks to mono then you can control the pan from there :)

I use the adobe produciton programs (versions before cs3).

I have experienced the same problem and when I am ready to do the audio I send all the audio files that are in left channel to adobe audition, select "Stereo expander" under effects set to:

Centre Channel Pan: 100 Stereo Expand: 100%

and this puts it in both channels.

Hope this helps.
