I know how to create animated menus but how would I create a animated transition such as when clicking on the button to play he movie, a animation clip plays before the movie starts?

I assume what you mean is when you click a button the screen cracks up and divides into 2 and then transitions into the new section or something like that right ? It can be done by rendering your menu itself as a video clip. Then once a person clicks a button you link to a small continuation video clip (the animation clip which starts exactly with the same frame) so that theres no visible difference.

You can also play a small clip of the menu breaking up (or whatever animation right before the target clip), But you would have to make s special transition clip just for this which means rendering your menu including buttons etc as a video. Importing the buttons etc as photoshop buttons and bringing them into vegas where you keyframe animate them to crawl away etc etc. So the sec you hit some button on the menu, the entire menu is now a video clip only which still looks like the menu is there and animating. Hope you get the drift. Im sorry im not able to tell you indepth how its done as ive never personally used it before.

Just search the forum for animated menus, dvd architect. There have been many discussions in depth on the methods of how to achieve these effects. They are very much possible with DVD Arch.

If all you want is to play a little clip after pushing the button and before going to the movie (like the T-Rex jaws on the Jurassic Park DVD, then it's just a matter of bringing the intro clip in as your menu item target, and then having its end action going into the main movie.

thx, figured it out.

Now the problem I am having is the program is having trouble burning the m2v files i had created using compressor on the mac. I dont have a dvd burner on my macbook so i am making and burning it on this windows machine...

Take them into an appropriate matching DV timeline in Vegas and render them back out with the DVD Architect templates under MPEG-2 (render sound separately as AC-3). If you don't do anything to them -- no editing, no FX -- there should be no recompression, so no loss in quality at all.

yea thats what ive been doing but what I am seeing now is the fcp rendered quicktime movies... the video wont open in vegas... so im gonna have to render the quicktimes in ae

If they're M2V, you should be able to rename them from .mov to .m2v or to .mpg and open them.

If the're AIF or another Apple-only codec, you won't be able to use them at all in Windows.
