Help with cross dissolve

Hello- I am trying to cross dissolve into and out of text (pink text on a white background). The pink text/white background fades from white to grey and then back up to white during the dissolve. See link. How do I get it to fade in/out without getting dark first?

I am using FCE on Mac. I placed the text/pink on V2 and put color/white on V1

Where's your video?

But I'd try nesting the white with the text -- Select both (make sure they are the same length) and SEQUENCE - NEST. Then apply the transition to THAT.

Good luck,

fade in out is black by default, there is fade to color, then you can double click the transition and change that to white or whatever, not sure if there is a flash in fcp or fce, that like fade in out with white default. cross dissolve instead the fade in out might work, but usually bugs in fcp.

fade in out is black by default,

What?

No no... fade in/out is neither black or white or anything other than OPACITY gain and loss.

Looking at that video I would say that the underlying video cut off before the fade was complete. That changes the composite as the opacity is changing.

But no... fade in is NOT black.

your talking about cross dissolve, that's opacity.
fade in and out is from and to black by default.
two different transitions.
