The answers on all this are spread out all over. Can someone please clear this up.
Here is the situation.
I'm working on a film to be edited in final cut.
Info
35mm
Sound will be sync'd on tape so I won't have to worry about this.
Final result will be out to film from the cutlists we will provide.
Now for the questions.
This is my first time doing a film project in final cut. From what I've gathered on my fourms on the net this is what I think I should do.
Import the flex files into Cinema Tools.
Export a batch list to Final Cut.
Batch digitize at 29.97
Open the clips in Cinema Tools and Reverse Telecine
Go back into final cut and
Make the old clips offline and the new .rev clips online (linked to the master clips in the bin) (or should I not use the old master clips in the bin to link to?)
Make all sequences I edit with 23.98
That's it.
Questions are
After I reverse telecine I checked the frames and it plays correctly A, B, C, D. On the same frame I noticed that on the timecode the last number 1&2 have meshed into a 2 with a faint 1 in the middle of it. Is this normal? I'm not seeing any field issues with my picture. In fact it looks perfect. If the most important thing to have a clean A, B, C, D frame without interlacing on it? I counted the frames an there is 24 on the timecode (even though it drops or blends a few) before it goes to the next second so it looks like I'm on the right track.
Next question
For some reason (In cinema tools) after I import the flex file go to - - Export Batch Capture -- then Final Cut Pro Video it exports fine but when I IMPORT the list into FCP and look at the heading it does not show the Key Numbers, Film Slate, Camera Roll. (note: I have those heading enabled and nothing shows up)
BUT when I (in cinema tools) go to -- Export XML batch list and import that into FCP it does see all the proper headings. When I've read on everyother fourm on the web everyone says to export a FCP batch list. No one else has compained of this problem. Can someone explain why this is happening. Also assuming this I should use the XML list then right?
QUESTION (going back to what I tried besides 29.97)
What are all the proper setting to digitize in the picture. It is on DVCAM. I asked the telecine house and they said it was transfered 23.98.
A friend of mine told me since they said it was 23.98 all I had to do was import the flex file and batch capture. Nothing more.
So at first I tried after importing the flex files, digitizing them with the 23.98 setting, and the picture came out strobey and the fields were all a screwed up. Should I then stick to my original plan of just bringing it in at 29.97 since that worked before. Was the telecine house wrong? Is it really 29.97? Also I had it set for 2:3:2:3 for both times when I tried .
If any help is out there please be a spacific as possible about the setting to set. I've seen people help but they just say oh you need to reverse telecine. But what about all the options in the tabs.
