I am a producer working with a dancer to produce a series of dance instructional videos. The client (dancer) has no money to put up front for the production, post production, or distribution of DVD costs. There will be 6 DVDs total that we will shoot over 2 weeks.
The issue is that the dancer will have the ability to sell the DVDs in person at workshops for about $40 each. I would have to sell online.
What would be the best way to write up an agreement with the royalty split etc? I was thinking of saying I will put up the 30K to get it made then he has to pay me back within 2 years of selling the DVDs.
Once he has paid me then he does not have to pay me anymore, but I am asking for exlusive rights to sell on a few sites like Amazon.com
Would this work good for me and him?
Or should I have complete control over the sales until the money is paid off etc? The only issue with that is that anyone can take the disc and burn more copies themselves and resell. We live in different parts of the US etc..
Any advice or help that someone can offer is appreciated!
