Help with Boom Setup

I'm in need of some audio expert advice. I have 2 types of mics (shotgun for outdoors and Oktava hyper for indoors) I also have a boom pole but I need a good shockmount and blimp.

The question is, can I buy a blimp system that will fit my larger shotgun and my smaller Oktava? I'm thinking a large blimp might be too big for my Oktava. Any suggestions. I am working on "nooma-type" videos.

Thanks,

I'm nowhere near being an expert but I use a K-Tek Medium zeppelin with an AT4073. I had to take out the 4073 for awhile and replaced it with an Octava just to have something available. You might give K-Tek a call and make sure it will fit whatever mikes you are using just to be sure. It's a bit large but works OK. If the smaller one would work with your shotgun it would be easier to handle on the end of a boompole. The Octava is so small that it will fit any of the K-Tek's. The size of your shotgun mike will determine which Zep you would need. I bought mine from Trew Audio. They could also give you some help and are good to deal with. As far as the mount is concerned, if I remember correctly I think I used a K-Tek KSM mount and not the KSSM. I haven't used it for awhile. The KSM mount is the longer of the two and will work with both the 4073 and Octave MK012. Some guys prefer the KSSM with the soft bands for the Octava. I bought the soft bands for the mounts but never used them. There are some posts out there with more info on the best mounts that you can probably find using the search utility. Hope this helps.

Thanks topcat. I am wondering how well your Octava worked as a boom mic. Did you get any noise from movement at all? I have used them in a studio setting and I know they can be very noisy when handled, does the ksm/kssm mount work well to cut out the handling noise? I was thinking about using it in an indoor boom situation but I am also thinking about using it outdoors as well, do you have any experience with using yours outdoors?

The KSSM mount is awesome! I have my Oktava mounted in one with a Rycote Baby Ball Gag/Windjammer and it works great outdoors.
