Hey, so umm..I am really confused and totally ignorant as to problems as specific as mines, which is about to become abundantly clear, so I apologize ahead of time. I shot something on a DVX in 24pa, 16x9 letterboxed and captured it with Vegas (someone else captured and I am not completely sure as to what settings he used, can figure out if it is necessary). I set the project as NTSC dv 24p, fullscreen, Pixel aspect ratio .9091. It says that is 720x480 (which, by my calculation is 3x2, not 4x3 or 16x9) and I want to get rid of the bars so that it outputs simply as 16x9. Here is where it gets really confusing, though. If I render it and open it up, then the final video is WIDER than 16x9, and the images are stretched out horizontally. I KNOW that it is not set at NTSC 24p widescreen, because I checked for this several times. If I watch it on my 16x9 monitor, then there are still black bars at the top and bottom, and this is not because the monitor stretches it (I tested it out on a 4x3 monitor and it was still wider than 16x9), but because Vegas is stretching it. Any advice? I am really confused. Even if there is no way to get rid of the letterboxing, I would still prefer a 4x3 picture that is not stretched and has bars to a 16x9 picture that IS stretched and STILL has bars! Thanks.
