Help!! Whats The Difference??

VIDEO GUY

THANKS FOR LOOKING. MY NAME IS TODD AND I HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY THE VIDEO BUG! I AM AN AVID HUNTER AND HAVE A STRONG DESIRE TO SHOT HUNTING ADVENTURES WITH A VIDEO CAMERA. I HAVE BEEN STUDYING AND PRACTICING THE LAST YEAR WITH THE SONY PD 170S. THEY SEEM TO BE EXACTLY WHAT I NEED (SMALL, DURABLE, AND USER FRIENDLY.) HOWEVER, I WANT TO HAVE THE BEST EQUIPMENT TO PUT OUT THE HIGHEST QUALITY LOOKING STUFF I CAN. THIS 24p THING HAS ME INTRIGUED. I AM BY NO WAY AN EXPERT OR EVEN CLOSE TO UNDERSTANDING THIS STUFF. I KNOW THAT 29.97 IS 30 FRAMES PER SECOND AND 24p IS JUST UNDER 24 FRAMES PER SECOND (THE FILM LOOK) I DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE. MY QUESTIONS
IS THE DVX 100A MORE BETTER THEN THE PD 170?
SHOULD I SHOOT HUNTING VIDEO IN 24p?
IF I SWITCHED AND SHOT IN 24p DOES IT EDIT THE SAME IN PREM PRO 2.0?
COULD I RUN BOTH CAMERAS PD170-29.97 AND THE DVX100A-24p AND BRING THE FOOTAGE INTO ONE PROJECT AND GET AWAY WITH IT?? IN CASE I AM SHOOTING TWO DIFFERENT CAMERA VIEWS IN AN INTERVIEW?
---OR WOULD I SIMPLY SWITCH THE 100A INTO 29.97?
HELP!!!
TODD

It's right there: at the left edge of the keyboard, beetween tab, A and shift, it says "CAPS LOCK".

If you use both cameras, shoot 60i.

Mtech, I though all caps made the point that I am needing help. Sort of like "HELP!!" You don't think so, lol. thanks for the response, if you could elaborate some time that would be helpful, if not thanks.

Humbly seeking help,
Todd

Yeah its kinda hard to read an entire message in all caps. and most everyone posting here needs help of some sort (some mentally) so it would just be a forum of all caps. yuck.

hey video guy... you can definitely shoot with both cameras... i've seen a lot of shows that use 24p as well as intelaced/60i in there shows ... if you are truly considering switching to the DVX100 entirely i would suggest that if you use alot of slow motion in your hunting show don't use the 24p mode because when you slow down the footage it tends to look a bit jittery and not much detail because you have less of a image per second only 24 frames per sec.... maybe you can shoot the hunting/slow mo stuff in 60i and the people/interviews/or what have you...other than the hunting/slow mo stuff 24p that's how i would do it.

Videoguy, free pass on the CAPS. It's obvious you are enthusiastic!
I'm an avid Hunter/Outdoorsman as well. I'm excited our Archery season is here in 2 weeks. My Cabela's shipment came last week!!! You probably understand that feeling.

Anyways, I've been doing Broadcast video for 30 years and have passioned for the outdoors even longer.
I've always wanted to combine the two but it's always been too cumbersome!
My first 3 day hiking attempt was carrying a camera and deck before camcorders. OUCH! Not to mention the Batteries! :(

Now days it's much easier. I ponder taking my HVX to capture the amazing nature I observe daily with quality...
Or settle for capturing with a smaller, (cheaper) option? I'm not easy on myself or gear on my Adventures!

Maybe you and I should take turns documenting each other’s Adventures.

Don't lose your enthusiasm. Hope to hear about your adventures.

If you're going to shoot 60i and 24p in the same project, the DVX should be shot 24p (not 24pAdvanced) and edited on a 60i timeline.
