Pretty straight forward. I have a dvx 100b (freakin Love it) But i'm looking for a good BACK UP for it just in case--and/or a less serious camera for vacations/ skits/etc.. I'm just looking for some peoples views or opinions. what do you all think of the **DVC-30 , the pv-gs500 , pv-gs300? Or i was also thinking would it just be better to buy a used dvx-100 / 100a to keep the 24p capability? What do you cats think? Thank you!

The best backup would be another camera, just like the first. Or as close as possible. So, in decreasing order: 100b, 100a, 100, DVC-60, DVC-30, etc.

IMHO

gs500 and shoot in 30p on dvx if you wanna match because it has a cinema mode that is a simulated 30p that looks good. oh wait its in widescreen i believe so i guess not the 500. dvc30? 60i..

Last year I bought a GS150 for vacation cam purposes. It's a good little 3CCD SD camera, also useful as a deck. But I was always a little disappointed in image quality, especially after being spoiled by the DVX. But you might consider entering the world of HD with your backup cam. . .

Recently I bought a Sony HC3 Handycam that records in 1080i HD (with SD an option). Whoa...image quality via HDMI out is stunning! Sony states it displays 4.5 times as much visual information as SD cams. Costs less than a used DVX100, though it lacks professional audio capabilities. I would've preferred to buy a Panasonic consumer HD cam, but there presently is no such animal.

where does the dvc80 fit in there?

Thanks for the suggestions! sean M- yea those sony hd consumer cams i've checked out and they look pretty sick, i liked what i saw but, i'm probably going to say Panasonic to keep the ccd colors as simular as possible(and the progressive frame rates). don't know what i'll do just yet but, thanks for the help.
