Help wanted on screenplay $500.00 + screen credit
Where to start. I have a great tale to tell, and in that lays the tale of this ad. I don't need any equipment, having sunk about $50,000.00 in cameras, 2 HVX200's, an Apple quad with FCP studio, 2 G-4's to download the P2 cards into, lights, mics etc. plus two false starts which cost some money, but I look at them as a learning experiences. The first thing I learned is you can't wing it on a real film, maybe a short, but not a 90 min film, which this is. To do it right you need a good-great script.
I can tell stories, but writing screenplays is much more technical than writing a story is as I've learned to my great consternation. I've had some offers of help on the screenplay the past two years, but they either don't come through, or they are writers themselves and end up telling their story, not the one I wrote. So what I need is a good script doctor who can take my script and the analysis of it I had done by a pro and help me get it into shooting shape. Not change it into another tale, but be able to fix what is wrong with this one. (I asked the pro who did me a favor by giving me the analysis, for a lot less than she usually charges, if she would do the script. For her it was not nearly enough money for the work even though she thinks the story has real potential, but at this point it's about all I can afford.) I've borrowed from my house and retirement system to get this far, but I'm close to tapped out for now. As a Vietnam vet and Agent Orange diabetic at 59 quitting my job and going back to school to learn everything I need to know about screenwriting isn't possible. I've set aside time this summer to do this, and as this is an indie flick we will also be shooting it on days off, nights etc. I have access to local actors, though I wouldn't turn down good outside talent if it comes my way. We have some investors that might put some real money into the film as they like the story and liked the teaser I did on it, but they need to see the script. The film is called Holy War and it is a science fiction story that deals with an experiment that goes very wrong. I do toss in a little of the real Holy War we are in, but it isn't the main point of the tale, what happens in the lab and afterwards is.
So if you can use the money, could use some film credits and have taken film writing classes and are familiar with the proper structure of a screenplay this might be a project you may find interesting and rewarding. You don't have to be a polished pro, you will have a script and a 23 page analysis of it to work with. Most of the heavy lifting is done I just need a good script at the end of the day. (If the film hits you will be in for at least two points also, so there is the possibility of some real money for you in this.) You also don't have to live in my area, you just have to be able to do the work, not be a jerk like the fakes were and help an old man with his dream before he dies trying to get it done. I am going to want some verification that you can do the job and are not a poser looking to jerk me around as has been done in the past. I'm really getting to old for that kind of mindless meanness. If you are a real freethinker or agnostic this might be a story that you will really like.
