hmm this is probably an easy fix but i cant figure it out after referring to some books and searching on here

when i open final cut pro and go to Audio / Video settings where you select video playback it says [missing] apple firewire ntsc 720x480)

but when i go to log and capture it recognizes the signal cause i can control the camera from the computer but says preview disabled where the picture should be.

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

working with a dvx100b and final cut 4.5

Sounds like you got your DVX100B. Congratulations!

Was your camera connected (via firewire) and turned on before you fired up FCP?

pretty confused now...

looked around and noticed that the warning that yells at you when you try and lauch final cut pro and you have no device hooked up it well umm gives you a prompt telling so.... so i set it back up to where it does that.

then restarted and exactly what i though would happen did. which was the prompt poping up telling me my camera isnt turned on or connected when it is.

all of this becomes strange when i can open iMovie and play the footage fine. and most importantly when i go to about this mac > more info there it is under firewire connections
FireWire Bus:

Speed: 800 Mb/sec Speed

AG-DVX100B:

Manufacturer: Panasonic
Model: AG-DVX100B
Unit Spec Id: 41005
Speed: 100 Mb/sec Speed
Unit Software Version: 10001

the computer is totally recognizing the hardware. so why on earth i get a prompt saying my device is not connected when i launch final cut pro is really confusing.

not to mention when i am in final cut pro with the log and capture window open i can press the controls in the window and it controls my camera as far as play stop etc buttons go. but it says preview disabled... so how it can control my camera but when i launch the program it tell me it doesn't detect a device is making me frustrated

please help.

I'm afraid the only experience I have with log and capture is off my ZR100. I've never even had the DVX hooked up to my computer. Most stuff I shoot is on the Quickcapture which is an external capture (HD) unit and I just transfer the clips in the form of MOV files. The log and capture is only used as a backup in case anything was wrong with the QC OR if I was using the Glidecam. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm not sure what your problem is. If you're not able to get an answer, you might want to post your question with LAFCP Users Group. http://www.lafcpug.org

I enjoy this forum more, but sometimes I need to go over there for an answer on FCP/DVDSP/Soundtrack Pro/Motion/Compressor.

Thanks. That's good to know. I'll keep that tucked away somewhere so if it ever happens to me, I'll know what to try.

Most likely your capture preset in the capture settings tab (upper right corner of the capture now window) was set to something other than DV NTSC. It will still let you control the deck / camera, but the preview will be disabled because FCP couldn't find the correct video signal. When you reinstalled FCP it went back to the default setting which is DV.
