HELP! Using Sony PD150

My deadline for delivery is looming and I'm in kind of a bind.

The client insisted I use a PD150 which I haven't used before. It's a great camera from what I can tell, but I'm not sure I chose the best option with shooting now.

I shot the whole thing at 1/30 (30i - it doesn't have progressive) and I'm happy with the look, but I'm having a problem deciding how to render it best.

I attempted to render it normally on the 29.997 timeline and the mpeg2 came out looking horribly jaggy. So I was trying to figure out how to deinterlace it and came across a bunch of threads in here. I've never had to do this with Vegas before, and after watching David's movie that explains 24p timelines, I'm wondering if I should just convert my timeline to 24p and render it as such.

Would I lose a noticeable amount of resolution in this process (is it because of the pulldown process?)?

I appreciate any help I can get, thanks!

Oh, I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 8.

If you converted to 24p, you'd lose up to half your vertical resolution. But probably worse would be the motion -- if you weren't moving the camera like a 24p camera (and you probably weren't), the conversion will have choppy motion, maybe wavy lines around objects, etc..

Best to stay with standard NTSC templates for both your timeline and for rendering to DVD.

Thanks, David. I actually used the camera like a true 24p because I usually shoot with the HVX or DVX, but since you said I'd lose so much vertical resolution I suppose you're right -- I'll stick with standard NTSC templates.

So what, in your opinion, is the absolute best route for me to take? I thought that from watching your movie that you said I should always use a 24p timeline because Vegas makes it so easy, so that's what I did. Hrm..

Would the best setting be an avi or mpg2? Why does Vegas' mpg2 look so jaggy compared to the avi?

Thanks for the help!!
