Help stopping FCP from doing it's job

Hey I uploaded a full tape and when i'm editing some of the audio is out of sync from the video etc(i know capturing full tapes is bad). I re-synced everything up manually in the edit but I get those red +/- indicators on each clip, when I render out the audio is off and the video clip is way off from what I see in my Viewer.

How do I STOP final cut pro from syncing the clips up on it's own when I render out? Is this even possible?

Thanks!

Syncing on it's own? I've not heard of that happening before. I might pose a few questions first;

What were your footage/capture/sequence settings?
What did you capture from?
How do you monitor your audio/video?
Are you adding any other audio onto your sequence (like a music track?)

If you have to break the sync relationship in order to get it in real sync, you can highlight them and select 'Mark in Sync' in one of your drop down menus. The red boxes should go away.

I captured from a deck, sequence settings 23.98/DV all that. Other clips work fine when rendered.

Basically I have a few clips in the edit that look great in the Viewer. The timing is fine and they play fine.

But when I render the clips are at a totally different part in the footage then shown in the Viewer.

I tried Mark In the red things go away but then when I render it's totally different(the timing of each clip, like a clip is say 4 seconds long, I'll get 4 seconds before or after the original timing of the clip).

This is really confusing haha but I don't know what else to do.

All I can think is make sure your capture/sequence/render settings all match, which it seems like you have done.

If it's just a few clips, make subclips out of the portions you want from the viewer, (don't place onto your timeline) export those and re-import them into your project. Use those clips in your edit. Now FCP won't be able to use any other part of it, since it now has no handles.

Last option, trash your prefs and re-import those clips.

I'm wondering, is the audio out of sync for the entire clip? (ie start to finish) It could be a drop frame vs. non-drop frame issue...

It's weird, I put the clip in Viewer, select the in/out and make a sub clip. But when I view the sub clip it's from a few seconds before where I selected the Ins/outs. I have used sections of the full clip in other parts of my timeline and I don't have any problems but this one particular point.

I got around this by placing the clip on the timeline and re-adjusting it. It looks fine in Viewer. When I render out it's back to the 3 seconds before/after how it looks in the timeline.

There might have been a dropframe/nondropframe issue when i uploaded the full chunk(which was almost an hour long). Is there any way to get by this?

1. Highlight the offending clip
2. go to menu > Modify
3. select option 'Mark in Sync' its about a third of the way down

This will reconnect the video to the audio with your newly selected sync.
Hope that helps.
