Help....PP CS5 won't load

I've googled this and found others with the same problem but no solutions yet. Premiere starts to load but gets hung up at 'loading exporterquicktimehost.prm". Media Encoder does the same thing, and AE hangs at "Initialising MediaCore" . Photoshop loads but then crashes immediately. This started after i had a mini crash that required a full on CHKDSK of my computer because the FAT or the MBR or something got corrupted and i lost all my desktop icons and all my folders appeared empty. I also did a system restore to apoint from a week ago. everything works elsewhere on my computer as far as I know, though i did lose my favorites from IE but not from Chrome. anwyay...has anyone run into this loading problem? Before i reinstall CS5 completely I wanted to ask here because my google search showed that simply reinstalling didnt help.

Thanks!

whewh! well i fixed it...i think. Not sure why this worked (though i do have a theory), but i changed the folder attributes of my APPDATA folder from hidden to not hidden. Also inside that folder are three subfolders. Local, Locallow, and Roaming. Local Low had a Aplle Computer Folder in it that contained a Quicktime folder. The Roaming folder had an Apple Computer folder that did NOT contain a quicktime folder, so i copied the one from local low into there. Not sure which of these did the trick, because i did both before i tried again, but then PP and AE and everything else seems to work fine now! Woohoo!

as for the WHY it worked, i think it had something to do with PP and AE not being able to find QT, so Im guessing it is because the folder it was looking for was hidden, or if it was going to the Roaming folder to look for qt it was empty. ::shrug:: Anyway...there it is. I hope this helps someone else in the future.

Hey I had the exact same thing happen to me yesturday. I got it while watching a video online. I quarantined the rundll32 file and my computers and also what I thought was a fake adobe file and then it said my hard drive may be corrupted as you said above. My desktop icons were gone and I also did a system restore. Now I have the same problem as you had with Premiere and Aftereffects. Do you think this could be caused by a virus?

I fixed the problem by simply making the folder unhidden. Copying the folder seems to have been unnecessary.

yeah man, im sure it was some kind of virus. sheesh. ya click on ONE viagra ad and it ruins your whole day! Im glad my experience helped, and thanks for the update on the unnecessary step.

Apparently this has happened to a lot of people and Adobe said to allow permissions for premiere and After Effects on your firewall. I think it's just a scheme to lure pirates.
