Help:poor DV capture quality

Hi,

I get horrible jagged contour around a subject shooted with my DVX100 in front of a blue screen. Just like poor codec blocking artefact.

The problem is the same when capturing/viewing it from Vegas or Scenalyser via my Toshiba portable Firewire input.

Any idea on this? I can provide a little pic showing clearly the problem.

???

That's DV's 4:1:1 color sampling for you.

You can read up more on the issue at Michael Phillips' site:
http://24p.com/codecs.htm

Different codecs react differently. The FCP codec is displaying the image as it was recorded to tape, but Avid's codec does some smoothing to the image. Vegas' codec apparently does no smoothing.

A good keying program can go a long ways towards overcoming it. Ultra Key from Serious Magic does a great job of keying with DV material. Sonic Foundry's Vegas keyer is supposed to be quite good at DV material as well.

You're right! After furter checking, it's a codec artefact.

Vegas is indeed very good at keying btw. :-[
