I just started using FCP 4.5 and I shot my movie on a DVX100 at 24pA. I imported my video with the "advance pulldown", created a 24p timeline but I can not view the squence/timeline on my monitor or camera. I can "log and capture", I can even "print to video" but it will not show up on my monitor when I am editing. WHAT IS GOING ON??????? I'm using a GL1 as my deck too.

Not sure what is going on, and sorry if I mention stuff you've already done or tried.

First... after capturing all your footage and completing use of the log and capture window you need to close this window.(pressing the x to close it completely).

So, now in your BROWSER window you have the clips that you captured. And you should have a SEQUENCE 1. Double click the Sequence 1 in your browser.

Grab a clip from the browser and drag it onto your timeline. You should now have a viewable clip. In the timeline you view clips in the CANVAS window. Sometimes it's just hidden under other windows, possibly it isn't open. Click the window bar on the top and make sure canvas is checked.(it should be by default as soon as you open a sequence).

Also in your browser, if you double click on a clip it will open in the VIEWER. So now you should be viewing all possible ways on your monitor.

As for viewing on an external monitor - you need to first have your deck on with the firewire attached before opening Final Cut. Then once opened, click the VIEW bar on the top, go down to the bottom where it says external video(or something like that) and make sure ALL FRAMES is checked. You should now be able to see it on your monitor. Also, under the audio/video settings you need to have firewire checked for external video setting.

If none of the above changes your situation, we'll try and figure it out again. Good luck.

Then once opened, click the VIEW bar on the top, go down to the bottom where it says external video(or something like that) and make sure ALL FRAMES is checked.

THIS WORKED!!! WOW what an easy fix..thanks man!!!!! I was trying to figure that out for about 24hours..thanks again!

This one buggered me up for a half hour with the client sitting right there. Embarrassing. Eventually I found it in the help file. Many swears.

That's great. I've been a part of this site for like 2 years and ... finally I actually get to help someone out for a change!!
