Hi. Me and a friend are planning on doing a small travel show for a foreign tv network, I would like to show our pattern/route of travel on the map from town to town and then zoom in on the particular town we're show casing. Is this possible in vegas? if not... what's the plugin or software for this? I would prefer something with a world map but I can for instance zero in on US+state+town or any country for that matter.
Thanks in advance!

Sure, you can do that in Vegas. You just need to have the image files. Import them and then use either the pan/crop tool or motion tracks to move them around.

Mark, I'm not very savvy with vegas. Exactly how do you draw a line on the map showing your path of travel?
Thanks.

Hmm...

If it's just a straight line, then take a solid color media generator (pan/cropped into a line), place it on the track above your map. Go to the pan/crop tool for that event, and create a mask over the whole thing. In time with your map, keyframe the mask to unveil the line as you pan across your map.

Funny you ask this...I just recently did a project with animating map paths. I used Photoshop to create a dotted path, and then export out of photoshop the individual frames with transparency for each dot (There weren't that many, many 25 or 30). Then I was able to "animate" them by just switching on the frames/dots I wanted in track layers in Vegas. It came out pretty cool :)

Mark can I see a sample of what you did? Bad news for me I don't have photoshop, but if it's what does the trick... I will get it. I thought there were some dedicated softwares for this kind of stuff which would make it easier for computer morons like myself.

Hi jinks - hey, that's funny - sorry...ok, sure how do I post something for you to see. I've not done that here before. Do I do that using the Members upload center?

If you don't have Photoshop already, you might consider Paintshop Pro from Jasc. I use it a lot, and it's a LOT less expensive compared to Photoshop. It's really my 2D tool of choice and it does pretty much everything Photoshop does, but I also have Photoshop just for compatibility with other Photoshop users.

Ah - just remembered - the video I worked on is posted on YouTube, and it includes that map segment I described. Do a search for Arabian Lords on YouTube. It's an opening/trailer for a video game.
