help please.

i'm new to adobe premiere pro and i just got some important footage, i don't have time to learn it the usual way.
i need to be able to zoom in on a spot or crop the video so only the part of importance is full screen.
and it'd be nice to pan and follow that object... what do i do? do i need another program or will premiere pro work?

the reason for this is while recording some iridescence clouds for my dvd project a ufo warped into my picture and then flew around at incredible speeds and angles, didn't even know the ufo was there till i reviewed it a couple days ago, its small and hard to see, so i need to be able to zoom in on it to show people.
heres the clip http://www.vimeo.com/7410849

the ufo warps in after my annoying laugh at the bottom right. in second clip it comes down from top middle and flys into the open sky on the right, it then stops and flys back up.
warning, there's foul language as audio was not turned off.
i have the raw mts files if anyone wants to see the high res version and has somewhere i could upload around 500mb.

You can't really "zoom in" per se, because premiere doesn't function in z-space. You are really scaling the image to simulate zooming.

You can use position keyframes to move the scaled piece as if you were panning or doing a camera move

Given the low quality and miniscule size of the "UFO", you might be better off putting a highlight circle around it (or dimming the backround, while keeping that object at normal opacity), or some similar effect - since upscaling to simulate zooming won't give you any more details.

After Effects will do what you want and so much more.

Check out www.lynda.com for great beginning tutorials by Chad Perkins (and a
host of others) to get started.
You can also visit Video Copilot at www.videocopilot.net. Andrew Kramer is
another AE God who has ton's of free tut's on his site.

Good luck.

You do not need after Effects and Premiere can work with the Z Axis using the transform tool 3D basic perspective. Click on my link below.

My video is not a motion path tutorial but you might be able to make use of the video.
At 1:18 off to the left of the video preview window you wil see the special effects editor. Click the little triangle for motion effect to set motion paths to track the object. You can just double click the clip to and then hit the special effects editor tab.

It can be done real easy. You can watch my other videos to see some motion paths being used. They are not tutorials but rather videos showing of the RT effects of Premiere Pro.

Perhaps I can do a motion path tutorial soon.
