Help picking the right sound equipment

Hello all,

I am looking to piece together a decent sound recording system for indie films. I own an ag-DVX100a, Seinheiser ME-66 shotgun, Bogen Manfrotto fishpole (gonna get a 12' boom pole soon), and about to purchase 2 Sony MDR-7506 headphones, and am looking to spend around an additional $1000 to round out my sound equipment. I have been thinking about purchasing a Mackie 1202 4 mic model mixer, but not sure if that is what I need it or a preamp. I have been doing my research and realize there is a number of set-ups I could put together using the following equipment: mixer, transformer adapter, attenuator, headphone amplifiers, preamp... yatta yatta, but when you have one you may not need the other and what-not. For the most part I know what equipment I want (brands and price range), but not sure if I should go with the mixer, or preamp, and what additional accessories I should use with them. Currently I may not be able to purchase Lavs in favor for the listed equipment above. Could someone make a few suggestions? I'd like to make my boom operator as independent as I can, without using a DAT or MiniDV recorder. I will also have a field monitor where I will be running headphones from. Thank you for your help!

Hi
I'm looking to buy a broadcast quality mic but don't want to spend too much. On a recent DV course the Sennheiser MKH416 was recommended and I think the Sennheiser 66 which is cheaper. Would you recommend the cheaper one, are there any others I should consider?
Many thanks
Dan

TheYankee, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Can I ask a real newbie question. I've found the ME66 much cheaper in the uk seem online retailers are selling the 'capsule' for around $200 which is much cheaper than I can find the AT4073a for. Am I not comparing like for like? Is the capsule just a componant that cannot be used on its own? Thanks for your help
Cheers
Dan

The ME series, in my opinion, is over priced for what it is; whereas the 4073a is under priced for what it is.

I wanted to love the ME series. If you read this thread:

I wanted to love the ME series. I love anything modular where you can add different caps and use the same preamp/power unit. I wanted to love this mic, and I have rented it about a dozen times. In addition to that, one of my best friends has it, and I have played with it a ton. In my opinion, it does not, will not, and cannot sound like how you want it to sound.

I'm just not a fan of it no matter how much I want to like it
