Help needed with AG-HMX100 mixer

Hi guys,
Needed some advice/ help on the DVI output on the HMX100 mixer. Apparently, the DVI multiviewer can only work on me when the mixer is on 1080i format.

I couldnt get any image out from the DVI multiviewer port when i m on 576i. Is there any setting i missed out? or does the DVI multiviewer work only on 1080i format?

any idea?

Hi...

I wonder if you have solve your problem there? I just got one and I notice the same problem. I've tried 4-5 models of LCD monitor that accepts DVD-D input inclusive Samsung B2230HN (using HDMI/DVI adapter), P2370HD, 24SA350, HP zR22w. On Samsung - most the LCD can display the multiview but either their image are shaking or something like a lost sync that goes black in a few seconds interval. Some other LCD doesn't display at all. I found this problem only on SD format, it is OK on 1080 and 720. On the program DVI out, some of them LCD are OK, some does not. I haven't tried in any professional display yet...

576i is standard definition PAL, right? I'm in NTSC land, so things may not be equivalent, but we have encountered a LOT of displays that are not compatible with 480i on their DVI/HDMI ports. The lowest resolution most displays will take on DVI/HDMI is 480p. There are some, but I can tell you from personal experience that it's a long slog through resolution charts in manuals to find them. :)

yes it is. i've tried on 480i (just to be sure) and tried output my EX1R as NTSC to the mixer, it gave me the same bad results. A HDMI monitor should able to accept 576i signal, I've tried the playstation 3 to sent a 576i signal via it's HDMI port on the same monitor and it works fine. On this mixer, either I directly connect to the same monitor by a DVI-D cable single link, or dual link, or via DVI-D to HDMI adapter or DVI-D to HMDI cable, it still doesn't work. It's pretty frustrating.

I've noticed the same, very problematic with DVI (multiview) output for monitoring. Tried using two different HP 24" LCD monitors (ZR24W and LP2475w). I don't remember exactly, but I think DVI connection only worked reliable when mixer was configured in 720 50p mode. But using a DVI to HDMI adapter, i think it was easier to get the monitor accepting the other framerates/resolutions. But we had a blackmagic converter aswell, so right now I don't quite remember if we used the converter to monitor when using the HMX100 in SD mode.

Pleace share all experiences on this issue, I will soon be using the HMX100 again (and will try to post new findings here).

Regards

I found out that the multiview output are 1440x576i @ 50Hz on SD PAL mode. Pretty sure not much consumer model LCD monitor can handle this resolution. I now carry around the blackmagic HD-Link (SDI to HDMI/DVI-D) converter, so I rely much on this device now on every SD setup. Just that on some samsung LCD monitor, B2230HN to be exact, the output are crop on SD mode and unlike other monitor, I couldn't set the screen fit setting to overcome this issue in SD mode.

It may help to mention that the DVI multiviewer port is only active if you have the switcher in an HD mode. We run ours in Standard Def and have to use the SDI multiviewer output to display the multiviewer on a standard def monitor. No DVI for us in SD mode.

Hey everyone,

I'm having issues with the switcher sending out a multiview signal at 1920x1080 60i @60Hz. It works fine sending a 1280x720 60i @60Hz signal, though. The monitor is an HP 2310e which the native resolution is 1920x1080 60Hz, and I am using a DVD-D cable. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Mark

Per the list of "preset video modes" on page 25 of the HP 2310e manual, this monitor does not seem to accept any interlaced signals at all. (Which is not surprising given that this is a computer monitor and computer signals are all progressive scan). You say you can successfully send it 720i, but maybe that was a typo and you really meant 720p? (I can't say that I've ever heard of 720i, but I'm not quite egotistical enough to suggest that it doesn't exist just based on that... :) On the other hand, the brochure for the HMX100 doesn't make any mention of 720i either...)

To be honest with you, I'm actually surprised that 720p (assuming that's what you're sending) is working through the DVI-D input; the switcher must be sending out something close enough to a PC 1280x720 signal to make that work. HP technically only lists 720p video as supported on the HDMI input.

Ok, so after digging through the fine print on both manuals...I found the issue: The AG- HMX100 does not support HDCP monitors via the DVI-D Multiview Output, only TMDS monitors. Well ain't that just peachy. I guess the school of R.T.F.M. reigns triumphant once more. And yes, I am surprized that the 720 signal worked at all considering this new info.

Luckily, Viewsonic makes a nice TMDS 24" monitor for under $200 USD. Hope this helps anyone else in the same pinch.

Okay, Mark, I'm a little handicapped here by not having access to the "basic" HMX100 manual (only the "advanced" version is available online, and I didn't see anything in it that seemed to help), and I know from personal experience that the area of what monitors support what signals on what input is a freakin' minefield. And it doesn't help at all that we're talking about a multiview output, where god only knows what the HMX100 is doing to the signal to make that work, but...

That doesn't make any sense. TMDS is part of the HDMI and DVI spec, so any monitor with either of those inputs would HAVE to be TMDS. HDCP is not an alternative to TMDS, it's a copy protection system, and (AFAIK) if the source doesn't ask for HDCP, the monitor doesn't even care about it. (Of course, if one of the sources that you're feeding through the switcher is a Blu-Ray or something else with HDCP, then it becomes a rather large issue, and you get into the problem of HDCP "keys," and heaven help you at that point.)

You know, I really don't think I'm helping, so maybe I should just shut up now... :D
