Help Needed. Color Correcting: Subjects Look Too Reddish

Hi all,

I need some advice on how to color correct my videos because the subject looks to reddish. I was using a DVX100A (PAL camera) recording in 25p in a nightclub with almost pitch black environment. I used my 100watt halogen video light mounted on my camera's shoe.

Prior to shooting, I did not do any white balancing whatsoever because it was too dark. Instead, before I switched on the camera, I had already set the white balance setting to PRST, which was assigned Auto White Tracking to it. I then switched on the camera, switched on the light & began shooting. Some screenshots can be seen below. The first two screenshots have a reddish hue to it.

I was too busy concentrating on shooting that I didn't notice the overly red tint in the video. Only later did I realise it & quickly switched the white balance setting to A & quickly switched it back to PRST. After I did this, the Auto Tracking White setting corrected the reddishness in the video as can be seen in the last 2 screen captures.

I would like to know how to bring back the original color as close to the last 2 screenshots using Adobe After Effects 6.5. Thanks in advance for your help.

Andrew

Andy,

You can start by using a Curves filter. Switch to the Red channel curve and pull it down a bit in the middle to taste. You can find a point on a face to reference, check out the RGB values, and adjust the various channel curves to match those values.

Hi Joshua & Shaw, Thanks so much for your suggestions. When I tried Adobe After Effects & color corrected the video & render to a movie, the whole app crashed.

So I have to use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. Is there also a curves fliter in Premire Pro?, or a master HSL in Premiere Pro? THanks.
