Help! My Computer Cannot Detect My Video Camera?

I recently have a new computer and am trying to import my video into my computer but my computer can't seem to find my video camera.

I was planning to use Edius 5 to capture but it didn't work, so I tried Windows Media Maker and it still dint work.

My video camera is on and is"in play". I have tried restarting the computer, offing the video camera, then switch it back to playpack mode but to no avail. Any solutions?

I'm using a JVC GR-D750 digital video camera.
I'm running at
Windows Vista Ultimate
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 810 Processor
2.00GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4670

here's the trick. I think my Firewire is not working but how can I check if it is the firewire's fault? Thx.

What are the sign's that my computer have actually detected my video camera?

YAY! New equipment!!!

Do you have another FW cable? Or another FW port?

Often some USB or FW ports don't like to be used & if you use a different port everything works perfectly.

You could also see if there are default settings in your software for HD or SD. I use FCP & if I put a SD tape in a HDV camera, FCP can't see the camera if the "Easy Setup" is in HDV. So double check those settings & maybe even toggle them in & out of HD/SD to refresh the settings.

I haven't used Vista much so I don't know how it works, but have you tried updating your drivers for the FW ports? Or uninstalling the drivers for the FW & then re-installing them?

Good luck!
