I've been trying to follow this tutorial to create an energy shield using displacement map, but it's quite confusing and I'm still unclear on the general concept, so if someone can explain it to me I would really appreciate it.

This is what I've done so far:
1) Create a sphere using a gray solid and animated fractal noise, then colorize etc.
2) Overlay the sphere over the area of the footage I want and resize as needed. Then pre-compose the layer as the Map composition.
3) Duplicate the video footage and apply Displacement map, set map layer to Map. Mask off the area I want affected. Turn off Map layer.
This is where I'm completely lost because the tutorial makes reference to compositions that the author evidently named, but did not write down. I'm stuck on creating that radio wave and setting it to reveal the shield layer. The frustrating part is I actually got it to work yesterday when I tried it but by that time I was so exhausted that I do not remember how I did it at all. Can someone translate the rest of that tutorial and show me a step-by-step on how it's done?
