help me with the name of this type of gear.

hi friends,

whats the name of that device that films studios use to pan up and down smoothly with a 25+lb camera? its an acordian looking device. Also , wheres a good place to get one that extends 2-3 feet.

Sounds to me like your thinking of a dolly. Panning is from left to right, up and down is a tilt

than i mean tilt , not pan

It sounds like your describing a studio pantograph but those generally aren't for camera...more for lighting in a studio so it can moved around easily. The movement your describing sounds like a jib or crane. The smaller jibs are around 6 feet.

yup , your right , i was talking about a pantograph , i swear i saw a picture of a camera using one of these but i do see that this is mainly for lighting like you said.
