Help Me Understand The 16X9 Native vs. "Squee

I am debating which camera to get for a couple low budget, direct to video features I will be shooting over the next 12 to 18 months. What is most important is the film-like quality of 24p and the 1:85 (more or less) widescreen ratio as these are two things that come into play with all the distributors.

It seems the XL2 has some very nice attributes the DVX doesn't (heavier solid looking camera, interchangeable lens, etc) but the main one is the native 16X9 shooting. Can someone please explain to me the big difference between the squeeze of the DVX and the native of the XL2 and is it very different looking in the final product? Do I still need an adaptor on the DVX to get the "widescreen" image?

There is just enough with each camera to have me trying to decide if I should spend the extra cash on the Canon or not.

Thanks!

Canon 16x9: 480 lines of vertical resolution.
DVX 16x9: 360 lines of vertical resolution.

DVX (with the anamorphic adapter) 16x9: 480 lines of vertical resolution. But it's a lot more involved to shoot with the anamorphic.
