No way dude... German all the way.

don't even get me started on German cars Kai. Volkswagen is a pos. i don't care if their cars are 'nice looking'. looks are nothing to me. it's how long the engine lasts and how low the maintenance is. i would never get a Volkswagen because they are hella expensive to fix. same goes with audi, porsche, mercedes....they cost too much and don't perform at the same level as my subaru. they can suck my balls.

My friend's Volkswagon is always breaking down and for some reason it gets stuck in neutral all the time.

i've got a 2003 gti, 55,000 miles on it- havent run into any problems yet, and i love it. all of my friends drive vdubs, none of them have had any issues.

A lot of people complain about american cars but my mom owned her Jaguar for one month and it already had to go in the shop.

I want one of these.

Is there anybody here who strictly buys American and loves 'em?
That would be me.
I only drive SUV's, and American SUV's (more specifically those made by GM) are the best on earth IMHO. I mean between Tahoe/Yukon, The Hummer series (especially 1 and 2) and the Escalade...
who can compete?

BMW takes the cake for me. The quality is second to none. Even (especially over) the asian imports. Reliability, performance, style, resale, etc. All top notch.

Sounds like you're a perfect candidate for a Kia then. You're definitely not in their target market, so thanks for clearing that up.

I'm sure they would man... i'm sure they would.

I've only purchased two cars in my entire life, a 1988 Volvo, and a 1995 GMC Suburban. I only got the suburban because I totaled my Volvo. I'm not fond of car payments, so I want one that will last, and one that I will enjoy driving enough to miss it when it's time to trade it in. I don't think there is a single make or model that someone hasn't had problems with, and the business is so incestuous these days, it's difficult to keep up with who owns what. All the manufacturers have their ups and downs and they all turn out a lemon every now and again. In my opinion, barring any obvious and known problems with a particular auto, really what it comes down to three things:

1. Needs. - We're a family of five. That's why I have a suburban.
2. Personal preference - I like the Tahoe, but I was thinking something other than an SUV would be fun. So I though I'd try to find a sedan that holds five, but that doesn't look like a rental car, or the "generica" model, (Accord, Camry, Altima, etc. ) Alternately, I could keep the suburban (only 65,000 miles on it) and get a sports car. That's why my list is all over the place.
3. Bank account - If it were unlimited, I'd have a BMW 740i sitting in my driveway. But it's not.

Driving Disjecta's Y2K Bug is loads of fun, but it's full of camera equipment, so forget it. :) He hates footprints on his Stedibag.

To be honest, I am kind of surprised that there were more votes for the Tahoe than the 300C. (Where are all you HEMI fans??) I really WANT the 300C, but my practical side says get the Tahoe.

Damn. Now you guys have really screwed me up. Thanks alot.

Might have been more if the HVX hadn't been snuck in there... There goes 40 votes...

Callaghan, I know many who agree with you, mostly Texans. :) When I bought my GMC Suburban, I looked down that fuselage and figured it would be a matter of weeks before a squeak would start and slowly drive me nuts. When I asked the salesman about how that might be repaired, he looked at my Dad, and my Dad looked at him, and together they said, "Duct tape."

Ten years later, there is no duct tape in my suburban.

Man, that Tahoe is looking better and better.

Fire it up....

Yes, but before you fire it up... remember this:

Q: Toyota (TM ) still ranks No. 1 in quality and reliability. What do you think is the trade-off between greater innovation and greater reliability?

A: The customer has the right to a car without any glitches. If we make a car that is twice as complex as another, we can not make even one more mistake. We've done everything to solve all known problems in the lab -- not after cars hit the street.

That being said, I must admit that I cast my vote for the HVX200 (sorry, Dallas.)
According to my line of thinking, Disjecta could make enough

with his talent applied to High Def to buy an entire fleet of Tahoes and 'Burbans.

Kai, too bad Kia isn't a japenese made car because if it was I'd be buying it right now....UH HELL NO.

I love my impreza because it tears up turns and accelerates to my liking. Plus the gas mileage doesn't kill me like big SUVs. So yes, you can claim that german cars are the best and I'll keep saying japenese cars are what I like. We won't come to any kind of medium here, so I'll keep letting those Kia people suck my balls...

Get a motorcycle or a bicycle.

If you *have* to get a car/suv/whatever do not get the Chrysler. They are huge and a real pain to drive around. No visibility and not much space on the interior for the size of the thing. Got stuck in one in Maui. Oh, what a joke too. They are renting those cars there and you get all these tourists trying to navigate the road to Hana. Nothing like a narrow narrow road and tourists in big cars that they can't control.

Argh!

What were we talking about?
