Hello,
I am a long time Panasonic video camera owner that is lamenting that they moved to LANC in 2019. While the LANC protocol works fine for zoom control, we lost the separate IRIS control port on the cameras. I use the small little Varizoom IRIS controllers mounted under my zoom controller when I shoot live shows. This allows me to be able to control everything I need on one hand. (See photos attached).
So, how can I recreate this on a LANC camera?
1) It is unclear if this really exists in the LANC protocol. I have seen some devices like the FOTGA controller and Sony makes a behemoth sized controller that does have an IRIS knob. But when I ask companies like Varizoom or Libec they do not want to develop in this space.
2) Is there any way to involve physical gears like a modified follow focus? I would love some input from those with more experience. My CX-350 does not have any mounting holes so any device would need to be attached to a custom tripod mounting plate. (which could be 3D printed pretty easily). But the main thing is that I really want to keep the tripod arm mounting & functionality.
This is keeping me using my cameras from 2014 and time is not on my side. Thanks for your help & input!
