hey Matt,
are you saying this 230 dollar K-Tek Avalon uses the same parts(cables, locking collars, connector etc.) as the more expensive higher end K-Tek boompoles, execpt for the material differences?

That is not quite what I'm saying... On the HIGHEST-END K-Tek poles the collars are different. Check out the K-Tek site at www.mklemme.com and you'll see that the normal "high-end" collars have a fancy, depressed-circles pattern on them... The Avalons have knurled collars like the grip on a socket-wrench. They saved some cash right there... Okay next on the Avalons is that they are NOT user-serviceable. At least not that I can tell. On the K-Tek poles WITH the fancy collars you can unscrew the bottom cap, but with the Avalons this is epoxied in place just like the rest of the pole construction. This is the SECOND and final difference in the Avalons vs. the top-of-the-line K-Teks.

Is that worth the $200-$300 savings for you? That's up to you to decide.

I got the graphite K-Tek Avalon and I like it, but after using it for a while I realize the aluminum version is a WAY better value.
