Help me? Compress without horizontal motion lines.

I am a novice user of Final Cut, I am in serious need of help.

I shoot with the Sony PMW EX1. Recently I have had to take my Camera in for a repairs to Sony and they changed my settings on it with out my knowledge. Unfortunately not checking my camera first I shot a whole project in 1080i60 35mb/s VBR. Which I believe gave me this problem in the first place of the Horizontal lines any time someone moves. the Interlaced visual look

I then Edited the project in Final Cut 6 with no problems. Until I export and compress to any type of file. The project is again chopped up with Horizontal lines.

I need to convert to DVD (MP2), MP4, Apple pro res 422.

Does anyone have any understanding on how to fix this in order to complete this project?

You can remove the interlacing fairly easily, if that's your issue. To test it, copy one of your clips to a new sequence and then export that new sequence: File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion > Options > Size > Check the "Deinterlace Source Video" box > OK > OK > Save. It should create a movie in about 5-10 seconds. Go look at that movie and see if your lines are gone. If so, you can go back to your original sequence and go about your normal export, "Send to Compressor" or whatever just making sure to deinterlace. Hope that works for ya!

Every time I've deinterlaced using the export options, it blends the two fields together. Obviously if there's a lot of motion, this looks really bad. What I would do is apply a deinterlace filter before exporting. That will basically duplicate what I think is the dominant field which still will cause you to lose half of your resolution, but it won't introduce any motion artifacts.

That didn't really work. But thank-you.

Is there a way to export/or edit at all in 60i? Or will there always be horizontal lines?

"horizontal lines"= interlacing. 60i = 60 interlaced fields per second. So in a nutshell- no it's not something you can 'export' out.

You either get a 24p converter like the one I mentioned or you live with it. As I said also, there are ways you can fake convert 60i towards 24p in FCP- google for that and you'll see- but they pretty much look like crap... That's why Graeme and other folks who make those plugins don't do it for free. You want it to look good- costs.
