okay. i've been working on a screenplay for the last three months and I still haven't settled on a name for it. so I figured, what the hell, let's make it a poll. listed are top contenders to be the working title for the film. it may stick thru to the end but by the improvisational nature of the films themselves, some good surprises usually lead to a new title during production or post.

first a little bit about the film:

This new film by Sabi Pictures is an ultra low-budget independently financed HD feature slated to begin production in the Fall of 2007. At the heart of this journey, through a contrast of urban, natural and emotional landscapes, lies the story of a young woman whose circumstance will lead her back into the presence of the father-figure that abandoned her and her dying mother nearly a decade ago. In preparation, the filmmakers and principal cast will collaborate and organically shape the characters during the rehearsal period. We will create a safe atmosphere to creatively explore the story "in the moment" through guided improvisations. This motion picture will further explore common spiritual principles founded in the production of "Blue in Green", made in participation with the Unica Collaborative, and expanded upon in "White Knuckles", directed by Kevin K. Shah. This film will be shot in the unique urban environment of Los Angeles and the vast desert landscapes of Death Valley.

anyway, here they are. the title, followed by its context in the world of the film.

Heart of Now - This is intended to be a poetic illustraion of "being in the present moment". the 'Now' being the moment itself and 'Heart' describing its center in the same way that 'heart' is used as a symbol for the center of our emotional lives.

Drift - Drift is a reference to the perpetual movement of time. And because of drift, no one can ever truly recognize when they are in the present moment -- once your attention goes to it, it's gone. this becomes relevant in the last third of the film.

The Melancholy of Butterflies - the butterfly holds a metaphorical value in the film. In a scene at a butterfly pavillion, the main character learns that chasing the butterflies won't bring them to her. rather, staying perfectly still will cause them to land on her.

None...well it's just different isn't it?

Nice description of the film by the way, good luck!

I expected to read a full synopsis of your story, only to discover it was a pitch on how you was going to make a movie, and what format it was going to be on.

For anyone in this forum to respond with an ounce of truth to your story, give us a full synopsis of your complete story. THEN ask us for a title.

Right now we all may as well pick something that sounds nice to us, but means nothing to the *story*.

I'm going to side with EJ on this. The titles you have are for effect, not to
convey the crux of the story. You want someone to read that title and get a
good idea what the story is about, so far, I wouldn't pick any of them. I don't
know ENOUGH about your story to do so.

The synopsis is ridiculously vague and tells me nothing about the film.

That said, when I pick a title, it usually represents a moment or point in the film that I feel is particularly vital or important. My best title so far was the name of a character who does little more than be in the right place at the right time.

so what was the title?

Don't make me beg.

I don't want to give away too much plot, but it's titled "Barry Johnson" - I think you should be able to pick out a good idea of what's going on

'Drift' sounds nice, but...like EJ sez, without knowing the story very well, it's hard to suppose what's most suitable.

If that's the text of your official press or investment release, BTW, it's principal cast, not principle cast.

Thanks to everyone for their votes and opinions. After discussing it at length with two writing partners and my girlfriend, I've commited to a working title. Well, semi-commited, i suppose. My improvisational and highly collaborative process is a fairly unique one. long after i've written the screenstory, and after all the footage is in the can, an appropriate title will emerge and reveal itself during post. which is usually the case. but for now, i've got something to call it other than "the untitled amber and gabe story".

And to EJ Pennypacker, Charli, mrWr0ng, and the ever-forlorn warrior: Sad Max... I appreciate your desire to know more about the story, but it's far too early for me to be posting the details in a public forum. i'm afraid i might find myself commiting to aspects of character and story that deserve more time to develop organically. as writers, i'm sure you understand.

in the mean time, here is a quick and dirty poster design using the one and only photograph I have of my lead. I'm fortunate to have already cast her. she's proven a valuable resource in developing her character.

again, thank you all. please don't mock my graphic design skills. I'll be hiring a professional (and personal friend of mine - her gallery) when the time comes.

I kinda like "Involver"

has a unique ring/feel/vibe to it.... sounds kinda unorthodox and gnarly

Drift seems pretty good.... perhaps a tad generic.... a tad, just a small tad

the synopsis sounds good, S. Cal has sooo many badass unique backdrops/landscapes for all sorts of stuff, no wonder its the Mecca of moving pictures
