I'm trying to make some buttons flash on a remote control. I took the original footage and made copys of the track and layed them on the layers above the original. Then i masked out a button on each track and use the brightness filter to make them flash. On my preview everything lines up and looks fine, but when i render the button copies that flash are all way above the buttons on the original. They don't line up at all. I can't figure it out they look fine until i render it then it gets screwed up. They tracks are exact copies they should be fine. Anyone got a clue on this, its doing it in a few places where i tried this masking idea and i gotta get it fixed asap.

its fcp5. I used the 5 point garbage matte or whatever. I'm a vegas editor normally so i'm used to having stuff actually work right. I ended up just going to photoshop w the images and creating cutouts of the items i needed highlighted and upping the brightness. I didn't have time to mess with the masks because the client was coming in. This worked fine since i had still images, but when ever i need to do it with video it will be another story.

Stuff actually works correctly in FCP, too. You just have to learn how FCP works. The Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 5, and the Apple Pro Training Series: Advanced Color Correction and Editing Techniques in Final Cut Pro 5, are two very nessisary books if you're new to the system.

I do mattes in FCP all the time, what you want to do would have taken me all of 10 seconds to set up, but I'm very familiar with the system. I tell all my consulting clients, take some time to learn a system before you rely on it to pay your house note.

The Brightness filter would have had nothing to do with this type of shot. I'd have used the Strobe filter for the V2 track with a matte generated by one of the Gradient generators, not any of the Matte filters. Very fast.

As for your shots not lining up, I've not seen that happen before. I'd need to know more about what you were doing. It could have something to do with the center point of the mask moving the whole video frame around. But other than a filter used improperly, I've not seen the match up problem you had.
