Hi !!!
I am having some major capture problems involving dropped frames.
It would seem that FC HD has been giving people problems as of late. And I am very disappointed in Apple not addressing these issues >:(

So I can't seem to capture 1 NOT 1 freaking clip !!!!

Shot in 24pa . Capture using the same pulldown method I've been using. Man I think I've honestly tried everything. Trashed user prefs. Repaired disk permissions. RTeinstalled panther. Reinstalled fcp 4.1 and update. reinstalled fcp hd . rebooted. next step is to REturn the mac and go back to pc. (never thought i'd say that!!!!)

I've been awake for 39 hours and I think i'm turning into TYLER DURTON . Better look out APPLE. ;D CAVEMAN

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

It's your computer most likely. I'm curious as to what your exact setup is
Computer
Memory
Hard drives ect...

You say using the same pulldown method you've been using... so it WAS working and now is NOT working.

The BEST way to capture this stuff is standard NTSC preset. Then use CinemaTools to "reverse telecine" This is obviously not as efficient as removing the pulldown on capture, but if your running a G4 anything chances are it's not going to work ALL the time unless you just do it the long way of capturing NTSC then reverse telecine to 23.98. Your disk setup can also make a big difference, standard ATA drives don't seem to cut it either.

Whatever you do.... don't turn back to the darkside. We're here for you!

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

LOL...nicely said Todd...Yeah lets hear some details about your exact system settings and the hardware you are currently using...it will help us understand from all aspects what your problem could be...

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

Thanks guys I don't want to go to the dark side but neither did anakin,

I'm running a dual 1.8 ghz G5. With 2.0 gb ram. Capturing to a external 120 gb fw drive.
I still get dropped frames when I try to capture reg ntsc dv. If I choose to ignore the dropped frames (in user prefs) It will capture only a still image for the entire duration of the clip. ;D

Thanks CAVEMAN

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

Hey guys under capture presets what comes up for you under quicktime video settings when you click advanced. I get a page from a formac analog capture device that I used to have. But I deleted all files containing any formac info. What do you guys get ??

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

Well, you just solved your own problem. The setting should read
DV/DVC PRO NTSC under the compression tab
and I use an HRDVS3U to capture with so that's what it says under the source tab

I'm almost positive that this is where you are having issues, it is your settings.

Try going to "easy setups" and selecting "DV NTSC". Make sure your deck/camera is hooked up before you open FCP. Try to capture.... also another thing I thought of... capture now was giving me problems. Try to log one clip then run a batch capture on that ONE clip.

It should capture, make it around 2 minutes just to test.

Given your system you should be o.k. to remove the pulldown on the fly... but DONT untill we at least get you capturing at standard NTSC.

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

I've also heard that if you try to Capture Now, the clip has problems capturing, but if you log the clips and then batch capture everything is much better.

Re: HELP !!! MAJOR CAPTURE PROBLEMS !!!

Yeah I tried everything !!!! I spent the whole next trying to figure it out. My settings were good . The "formac" issue was just that the quicktime advanced menu looked alot like the formac page. I honestly think that it was a final cut bug. I even reinstalled 4.1 and still couldn't capture. So I ended up wiping out my hard drive and starting fresh. I had to reinstall all my programs but it seemed to work. I just batch captured an hours worth of footage in about 40 clips removing the pulldown on the fly and it all looks great. Thank you all for your time and advice.
