Hey guys,
I've posted this issue over in Documentary, but I'm a little desperate to find some answers tonight. I'm working on an ongoing project - documenting progress on a construction site. It's a very big job site, with dozens of trades.
The company has recently rented some new construction lights - and they're killin' me!
The recycle rate is slow enough to show banding on my Canon 5D Mark II, even at a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second. I basically can't shoot in the room where all the action is, without getting that recycling light effect.
I'm looking for solutions, and quickly leaning towards asking the site supervisor if it's possible to swap out the work lights. The video is very important to them, and I'm sure they would prefer to take that option over looking at banding in their final video, over the next six weeks of footage.
1) Is this just my DSLR? Is there another camera that could remedy this issue? What should I be looking for?
2) I've got some rapport with the supervisor - is it a better option to ask him if they can change the lighting?
I'd like as many options as possible at this point. I'd want to KNOW there's no better option before I ask the Sup to change things up with their rental company.
Also, if I request that of him - do you have any lights you'd suggest? Work site lights, I mean.
Thanks friends,
- Cole
