Help - Interlacing Issues

Okay, I am new to this board, but everyone here seems very helpful and I'll appreciate any attention I might get with this problem I am having...

I know others have written on this board about interlacing issues in 24p, but I still have not been able to find a satisfying solution for what is wrong with my image.

So I shot my footage in 24p mode (not 24p Advanced) and I digitized at 29.97 then used the 'remove pulldown' option under the 'tools' function. Now I have been editing in a 23.98 timeline the entire time...

Unfortunately now, my final completed projected I have what looks to be interlacing issues, but de-interlacing does not in fact take care of it. It isn't extreme and really only noticable in very fast dramatic camera moves or action happening on screen.

I seem to have tried everything possible, and I'm confused as to why my image isn't 'progressive' to begin with...

It looks this way both on screen and on a television too (someone mentioned in another post that if it looks that way on the comp screen it wont on a teleivision.)

The trouble doesn't seem to be in my export, but rather in my source.

Please help, I greatly appreciate it, I'm on a very tight deadline with this project...

First - If you shot 24p (not 24PA) then you shouldn't have been able to do a Remove Pulldown under Tools menu. This is only for 24pa mode. If it really was shot 24p then you'll need to use Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown.

If you park on a frame with lots of action do you see odd and even lines? (like 2 slightly different images offset every other line) If so then that's interlace. IF you do Pulldown removal on 24p or 24pa footage (or straight 30p) then you won't see that. If it's raw from the camera or 29.97 sequence or being output back to video iit will have this and is perfectly normal.

If instead you're seeing tearing (image literally torn in half into 2 images) or strobing (jerky motion) then those are not interlacing issues. Those have to do with the playback system or original photography (too fast of pan, etc)

More Figuring out...

More Figuring out...

Thanks for your response... things actually seem more complicated though... I went back and looked at my original source footage (that's captured already) and did some tests... The main files look great, no interlacing issues (unlike I had originally thought)... it is when I bring them into a 23.98 timeline that I get issues... NOW if I bring the same clip into a 29.97 timeline (then I have to render)... those issues aren't there...

Does anyone know exactly what is going on here? Should I just have been working in 29.97 all the time (besides the fact that my footage is 23.98?) The problem I'm having also is that I've already completed the project, so I can't imagine I can just copy the whole thing into a 29.97 file to fix this issue, can I?

Any immediate help is GREATLY appreciated thank you...

So what are the issues? adding a 23.98 clip to a 23.98 sequence should cause no rendering and should show no interlacing. If that's not the case the sequence is not set to match you clips.

Interlace

Interlace

I'm not exactly sure... I have my 23.98 footage source and it looks great, but as soon as I bring it into a 23.98 timeline it gets screwed up...

Not only this, using a de-interlace filter doesn't actually work, so that is clearly not the issue...

the ONLY other thing I could imagine is that I shot with an animorphic lens, but I am editing in a non-animorphic timeline (that is why I have to render the footage). I can't edit in animorphic cause I have some footage that is not actually animorphic and I need to edit the two sources together...

Thanks again for everyone's help, I really hope you can help me find a solution for this problem.
