HELP!! I was robbed

Hi guys, don't know if can help much but i'll post this anyway.

After about a month and a half of owning the dvx, it was robbed. People broke into my house and looted the place. There is hardly anything left (no editing computer either). And what sux is that i wasn't even finished paying for it. (I still live with my parents and I still owed her 400 bucks for the dvx). Any suggestions?

O ya and I just ordered the new battery, which i now have no use for.

Sorry to hear that--it really sucks. If you've got insurance, then you need to make a detailed list of everything that was taken. In general, I wouldn't count on the police to do much in the case of property theft--the chances of recovery are usually pretty slim.

ya i no the police came, dusted, but pretty much did not do much. They even took all of my film work, so my chance of going to any film school (if I wanted too) are gone.

I wrote down my serial number on the rebate I sent to Panasonic. If I could get the serial number from them, what can i do with it?

That totaly sucks! If you have your serial number written down, you can phone all the local pawn shops and get them to watch out for the cam. I have no way of dealing with this kind of crap. I'm a pretty laid back person and seldom take things personally, but when it comes to getting robbed I become very teratorial and would have no qualms in making sure you never walked again if I caught your ass. Stealing from peolple who work hard to pay for their stuff is the work of creatures with less value than the lowest animal. I can't wait till we have off world mining colonies where these vermin can be sent to mine the stuff that fuels the enterprise starship....Sorry to hear about your loss.

Thanks a lot. i admire your enthuisam. (you're post is kinda funny)I couldn't have put it better in words. And the pawn shop thing, great idea!. I will certainly do that. Could i tell panasonic of my situation? Maybe they can help?

Pani isnt going to help you on this one. Was it under warranty? With whom? Contact the place as they'll have all of the information. Your parent's don't have HOI? Might want to see if that fell under the umbrella. They broke in and took YOUR stuff and nothign else? Probally someone who has been in your room before; a good frind for instance. Thats usually the case.

I think there was a warranty under a year with buydig. I don't know what an HOI is. O and I am pretty sure a friend didn't take it because when we came back to the house, the place was a mess, tables/beds turned, tvs/guitars/anything worth value was gone. Prolly 15,000 worth of stuff and also took SS numbers, Credit cards, Drivers LIcence, and Checkbooks with signatures. They have already tried to charge the card, but my parents blocked it somehow. Any word of advice about the financial stuff, like protecting my parents about identity theft and such?

Cancel all cards and freeze the bank accounts. Change bank Account (Specifically Account Numbers).

Get a security system and insurance HOI - Home Owners Insurance (It's affordable).

Be gald its material crap and no one is hurt.

I have a feeling its probably a freind of a friend who took your stuff. There's not a whole lot you can do about idenity theft. I have a friend that has a special GPS device thats attached inside his 60k camera and also his computer. If that ever goes missing he can easily track it down and the bastads that took it. What I usually do is send out the Chinese traids and they'll handle it. Kidding... :) Anyway sorry to hear about that. Keep your eye out because you might find some person filmming with your DVX. Make sure you have that serial in handy. You can try to check on ebay as well. Good luck!

That really f'in sucks man...
It has to be someone who you know... or someone they know.
Maybe even a neighbor's friend.
Most people don't break into random houses. There has to be a reason how they knew when to target your house.
This is why I am so paranoid to tell people I have stuff like this now...
hope you get this resolved...

Most people are required by law to have home owners insurance if they are paying a mortgage. It protects the lender as well as you. The problem is that big-ticket items (such as the DVX) sometimes need to be listed separately to be covered. Otherwise your agent just has you make a list of everything that was taken (good luck remembering all of that). IF the figure that it adds up to isn't more than what your policy covers for loss of personal property, they write you a check for that amount. It's usually pretty straightforward.

Giving serial numbers to the police can help (especially if they try and pawn it) Most places around here that sell used electronics (even music stores selling used instruments) hold everything for 30 days to make sure the serial number doesn't come up stolen. It's not likely to turn up, but you never know.

You may not think it was anyone you knew (and you may be right) but many burglaries are commited that way. Either someone that was in your house oncve (friend of a friend) or someone closer. It's happened to me.

oh Im seventeen, and thanx guys for all of your help. ya, im pretty sure that its a friend of a friends and so forth. I know this becuase i have been told by my so called friends that they threw a party while we were away in china for the spring break. But ya, I'll ask my parents about HOI. I reallyl hope i find it.
